The Jesus and Mary Chain

THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN

The Jesus and Mary Chain  are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983.  The band revolves around the songwriting partnership of brothers Jim and William Reid.  After signing on the independent label Creation records, they released their first single “Upside Down” in 1984.  Their first album Psychocandy was released to critical acclaim in 1985 on a major label on WEA.  After disbanding in 1999, the band reunited in 2007.  A new studio Damage and Joy will be out in March 2017.  (More from Wikipedia)

The Jesus and Mary Chain formed in Scotland in 1983 and was a highly influential alternative rock/indie band that, like their major influence the Velvet Underground, suffered from low record sales.  According to Wikipediatheir tacky name might have been taken from a similarly tacky offering of a gold-colored religious chain on a breakfast cereal box.
