EXPECTING TO FLY
“Expecting to Fly” is a song written by Neil Young and performed by Buffalo Springfield. The song reached #98 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. The song appeared on their 1967 album, Buffalo Springfield Again. Producer Jack Nitzsche provided the orchestral arrangement featuring a string section plus an oboe. Nitzsche had also worked with the Buffalo Springfield song “On the Way Home”, and “Broken Arrow”, both written by Neil Young. (More from Wikipedia)
One of Neil Young’s first well-known songs, “I Am a Child” was on Buffalo Springfield’s final album, Last Time Around; but he really shone on the previous album, Buffalo Springfield Again with the opening cut “Mr. Soul”, “Expecting to Fly”, and the ambitious “Broken Arrow” (Young named his music publishing company after this song).
