Eleanor Rigby

ELEANOR RIGBY (Vanilla Fudge)

“Eleanor Rigby”  is a song by the Beatles, released on the 1966 album Revolver and as a 45 rpm single.  It was written by Paul McCartney, and credited to Lennon–McCartney.  Richie Unterberger of Allmusic cites the band’s “singing about the neglected concerns and fates of the elderly” on the song as “just one example of why the Beatles’ appeal reached so far beyond the traditional rock audience”.  Vanilla Fudge covered the song on their debut album Vanilla Fudge in 1967.  (More from Wikipedia)

Vanilla Fudge had a well developed formula of covering a variety of hit songs in a slowed down, psychedelicized manner; their debut album, Vanilla Fudge (1967) was filled with them:  the Supremes hit “You Keep Me Hanging On” (which is what got them signed in the first place to the Atlantic Records affiliate, Atco Records); two Beatles songs, “Ticket to Ride” and “Eleanor Rigby”; an Impressions classic “People Get Ready”; the Zombies song “She’s Not There”; and Sonny and Cher’s “Bang Bang”.
