Donita Sparks  (born April 8, 1963) is a vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter.  In addition to performing with her most recent band Donita Sparks and The Stellar Moments, she is the co-founder (along with Suzi Gardner) of the band L7.  Sparks released her debut solo record Transmiticate in February 2008.  Sparks and L7 formed Rock for Choice with the Feminist Majority Foundation in 1991, staging numerous concerts featuring some of the biggest bands in the industry benefiting pro-choice organizations.  Sparks is also the drummer for the Lou Reed tribute band, Lou Man Group.  (More from Wikipedia)

Another predecessor band to the “riot grrrl” scene was another all-woman rock band called L7; the name is a longtime slang term for “square”, since an “L” and a “7” in block lettering can form a box.  The band was formed in Los Angeles in 1985 by guitarists and vocalists Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner; bass guitarist Jennifer Finch and drummer Demetra “Dee” Plakas were then added.
